Foil boat

Build a boat from aluminum foil that can hold the most pennies before sinking.

Materials

  • 20cm-square piece of aluminum foil (about the size of a Kleenex opened up)
  • pennies
  • bucket, tub or pan of water

Instructions

  1. Take 10 minutes to design and build a boat out the piece of aluminum foil.

  2. Once the 10 minutes are up, place your boat into the water and start adding the pennies.

  3. Record the total number of pennies the boat holds before sinking.

  4. Can you build a different style of boat that holds more pennies, using the same piece of foil?
