Great Canadian Engineering!

RADARSAT-1

This man-made "star" is possible, thanks to engineering!

RADARSAT-1

  • RADARSAT-1 is an Earth observation satellite.
  • Thanks to many types of engineers, such as electrical engineers, controls engineers and software engineers, Canada’s "eye in the sky "rocketed into space in November 1995.
  • Using microwave technology, RADARSAT-1 can penetrate clouds, fog, dust, and even monsoon rains, day or night, to record land and water features.
  • Information from RADARSAT-1 ,which was developed under the management of the Canadian Space Agency, can help in oil, gas and mineral exploration, environmental impact assessments, sea ice tracking, natural disaster monitoring and forestry management!
