Great Canadian Engineering!

International Space Station

This unique laboratory is possible, thanks to engineering!

  • The International Space Station (ISS) is a huge space laboratory located
    400 kilometres above the Earth.
  • Many countries are working together to complete this ambitious engineering project.
  • When completed, a permanent crew of 7 astronauts will be able to live and work on the ISS but the entire project won ’t be ready until 2006.
  • When fully assembled, the ISS will weigh an estimated 450 tons and cover an area as large as a football field.
  • Teams of Canadian engineers and scientists are contributing to the ISS.
