19.  Why is it important to use the metric system? Think back to those rocket scientists and that mistake they made back in September 1999. Remember? It seems one group of scientists was using the Imperial system of measurement (pounds, miles, gallons, etc.) for the Mars Climate Orbiter mission, and another group of rocket scientists was using metric. Well, $187 million later, instead of going into orbit around Mars, the Climate Orbiter burned up. Whoops. Back
