10.  ...astronomers on the ground will get as good a look at stars as from the Hubble Space Telescope, thanks to Canadian researchers?

Altair, a new "adaptive optics" system being built by the National Research Council of Canada for Gemini Telescopes (like the huge one in Hawaii) will help bring the stars into better focus. Altair is a little bit like a pair of glasses for the telescope. Special computer programs compensate for atmospheric distortions, allowing astronomers clear images of stars.
