Detecting explosives and drugs is a snap with Ottawa-born Lorne Elias's Explosives Vapour Detector. The size of a briefcase, the EVD can sniff out tiny amounts of vapour and break down the chemical components. Improved versions of the detector are used today by police, customs officers, and airlines around the world.
